It Looks a Lot Like Christmas

How incredibly beautiful and serene is this winter scene? Now that I've been in Southern California for 28 years, snow is something we've experienced only a few times at our home in the Saddleback Mountain foothills. This photo brings back memories of growing up in Illinois and Christmas' at my parents home when we would sit in their glassed in sunroom and watch the snow blanket the hill and the frozen lake beyond.

How to Make a Christmas Tree Topper Bow

Create a beautiful Christmas Tree Topper Bow with this step-by-step tutorial. My Christmas trees have always had bows, flowers, and glittery stuff and this year, my trees will be showing off new toppers. (I'll have to post a photo of my skinny leopard, lime and bronze tree - it's my favorite!)

Setting your Table for a Fall Party

You've sent out invitations to your fall party, now it's time to get your house ready.  We found this stunning centerpiece and table setting guests would drool over. The centerpiece could take you from October right through December. I love the red and the feathers. This would fit nicely in my dining room and would look splendid with my blonde walls and sixteen foot red drapes. The entire room can be seen on Embellishments by SLR.

We have Photo Holder Christmas Cards!

It's getting harder to find the traditional folded style Photo Holder Christmas Cards. You know, the kind that you attach your own prints to the front and they open to your holiday greeting?

We love this style Holiday Photo Cards as they let you send one photo to your family, another photo to your friends and another to your business associates, and so on. It is so easy to customize them to fit the people on your holiday Christmas card list.

I have a friend that prints out pictures through the year of her family interacting with the people on her Christmas card list. When it's time to send out her cards, she picks the photo holder style holiday greeting card she likes, then puts a different photo on each Christmas card of the people on her list. Every year, the people on her holiday card list are surprised to open her envelope and find a picture of themselves on her card. How clever!

Easy Toffee Recipe

Toffee is one of my favorites and this recipe is as fabulous as it is easy!

3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup butter
1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Grease a 9 x 9-inch cake pan. Spread the chopped walnuts evenly in the bottom of the pan. Over high heat, melt together sugar and butter in medium size saucepan until boiling. Lower heat to medium. Boil over medium heat for 7 minutes. Pour into pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot mixture.

Place a cookie sheet over the pan to retain the heat and melt the chocolate chips. Cut into squares while hot, then refrigerate until hard. Break into pieces.

Note: Yield depends on how large you break the pieces.

Sponsor a Family this Holiday

At Christmas, our company sponsored a local young couple with five children and another baby on the way. On a Saturday afternoon, my mother, sister, husband and I delivered two carts of groceries and an artificial Christmas tree complete with lights and decorations to the delight of some very excited youngsters.

It was so rewarding to see them clapping their hands and jumping around with joy with each trip we took to bring everything in from our cars. My mother immediately held the attention of the one-year old girl and passed out green-frosted Christmas tree cookies. My sister took pictures of all the activity and my husband set up the Christmas tree and helped the children decorate it.

The oldest boy asked me, "Are you the lady that brought us all these presents?" as he pointed to the pile of gifts we had delivered earlier in the week for their parents to see and wrap for their children. It made my heart smile to say, "Yes, I'm one of those ladies."

Before we left, they all proudly lined up in front of their Christmas tree and smiled for our final picture. What a wonderful day!

Merry Christmas to All!

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Traditional Christmas Greeting Photo Cards

We love the folded traditional Photo Christmas Cards, mainly because you print and attach your own photos to this style card and it opens to your own custom printed greeting and family personalization. You can send one photo to your family, another photo to your friends and another to your business associates.

One of my friends actually prints out and keeps pictures of her family interacting with the people on her Christmas card list. When it's time to send out her cards, she puts those pictures on the card she sends to them. How clever!
